Poem - Winter Diamonds

Winter Diamonds

In the light of a winter moon,
Sky studded with silver stars,
Temperature plummets,
All is still.

Hibernating animals curl tighter,
Breathe lighter,
Even the mice stay home,
Snuggle closer.

But something is growing,
Stacked hexagonal rings,
Too slow for the human eye to perceive,
Until morning.

In the light of a winter sun,
No clouds in a pale blue sky,
Everything sparkles,
Light reflected.

Red berries and bare branches transformed,
Pristine white supernatural perfection,
A coating of magical fairy dust,
Frost crystals.

Tiny drops of water vapour,
Frozen into breath-taking beauty,
Soul-expanding awe and wonder,
Winter diamonds.
